A man accused of fleeing a traffic stop while armed with a knife, a baton and a handgun and then biting an officer at police headquarters has been charged.

Winnipeg Police Service officers pulled over a vehicle on the 600 block of Manitoba Avenue just before 6 p.m. Sunday and quickly arrested a man who tried to run, police said.

Police found the knife, baton and pistol, as well as ammunition. The suspect was also charged on an existing arrest warrant for drug trafficking, assault on a peace officer and possessing property obtained by crime.

The suspect “became violent” toward officers processing him, the WPS said, biting one of them and trying to take their Taser. The officer wasn’t hurt.

A 29-year-old Winnipeg man has been charged with assaulting, resisting and disarming a peace officer, as well as a slew of firearms and weapons offences. He was detained in custody.
