Man charged in Elmwood assault

A man is charged with aggravated assault after a victim was punched and slashed with a knife in an apartment suite in Elmwood.

Police were sent to the complex on the first 100 block of Stadacona Street shortly after 4 p.m. Saturday and found a 27-year-old man suffering from multiple serious injuries. He was taken to hospital in stable condition.

Officers determined the two men were in a suite when, without provocation, one began punching the other before grabbing a knife, slashing the victim and leaving, the Winnipeg Police Service said in a news release Monday.

Officers arrested a 25-year-old man outside on the 100 block of Henry Avenue shortly after 5:30 p.m. He was detained in custody.
