A 22-year-old has been charged in the Monday evening slaying of a Stony Mountain prison inmate.
Nukota Peters, also an inmate at the federal prison, has been charged with second-degree murder in the killing of Dean Young, 37.
Headingley RCMP were called to the institution, just north of Winnipeg, about a serious assault at about 7:30 p.m. Young was suffering serious injuries and was rushed to the Health Sciences Centre, where he later died.
RCMP homicide investigators charged Peters on Thursday. He remains in custody. Mounties say they’re still investigating the killing.
