A man has been charged after he allegedly assaulted two police officers and smashed a window and chair at the Steinbach RCMP detachment.

The man approached police outside a business on Highway 12 North at about 9:30 a.m. Sunday. He quickly became belligerent, acting erratically and uttering threats, RCMP said in a news release Tuesday.

The man resisted arrest and assaulted an officer, RCMP said. He was taken to the detachment, where he allegedly assaulted another officer and uttered more threats.

Hours later, after the man had calmed, he was taken to a secure room to place a call. RCMP found a window and chair broken inside before taking the man back to a cell.

A 33-year-old Rural Municipality of Ste. Anne resident was remanded into custody and charged with four counts of uttering threats, two counts of assaulting a police officer, resisting a peace officer and mischief under $5,000.
