Man charged with damaging gas lines outside businesses

A man has been charged after someone used tools to damage multiple external gas lines.
Police said the incidents happened between Feb. 16 and this Wednesday at businesses in the 300 block of Stanley Street, the 100 block of Henry Street and the 600 block of Main Street. Two businesses on the Main Street block were targeted.
Winnipeg police major crimes unit investigators determined a suspect cut through chain-link fences and used tools to damage the gas lines, creating potentially life-threatening situations for employees and anyone in the surrounding area.
An estimated $10,000 in damage was done. Manitoba Hydro repaired the damages.
Justin Ryan Hastings, 30, of Winnipeg has been charged with seven counts of mischief endangering life, and single counts of breaking and entering with intent and possession of break-in instruments. He was detained in custody.
