A man was arrested for impaired driving after a dump truck slammed into other vehicles on the north Perimeter Highway on Monday.

RCMP were sent to the intersection with Pipeline Road at about 7:45 a.m.

An investigation determined a westbound dump truck struck the rear of vehicles stopped at the traffic lights. Those vehicles then collided with another vehicle stopped at the intersection.

Emergency crews removed one driver, a 46-year-old man, from a vehicle. He was taken to hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries. Two other drivers, men ages 35 and 45, were not hurt.

The driver of the dump truck, a 65-year-old man, failed a roadside screening device and later refused to provide a breath sample, Manitoba RCMP said in a news release Tuesday.

He is facing “numerous driving-related offences,” the release said. His driver’s licence was suspended, and the dump truck was seized for a mechanical inspection.

All four men are from Winnipeg.
