Man dead, another in custody after Steinbach-area rollover crash

A man has died and another is in custody after a single-vehicle rollover near Steinbach on Wednesday.
Steinbach RCMP said one of its officers was travelling on Highway 12 when he saw the vehicle overturned in a southbound ditch at about 6:20 a.m.
The officer and a passerby stopped at the scene, with the passerby telling the officer they had seen someone trying to remove the victim from the car before fleeing on foot.
The officer found a 27-year-old man who had suffered life-threatening injuries. He was airlifted to hospital by STARS Air Ambulance and later died.
With the help of a police dog and a drone, RCMP found the suspected driver, a 31-year-old man from the Rural Municipality of Taché, not far from the scene.
No charges have been laid.
