A man is facing charges after an argument between two residents of a Waverley Heights home escalated into a machete attack.

Police were sent to the house on the first 100 block of Syracuse Crescent at 8:28 a.m. on Jan. 21.

Officers learned a 23-year-old man was getting ready to leave the home when he was confronted by another occupant — a 49-year-old man — about rent payments.

The older man armed himself with a machete and assaulted the victim, who suffered minor “upper body” injuries, the Winnipeg Police Service said in a news release on Jan. 22.

The victim was able to flee the home.

The older man was released on an undertaking and released from custody. As of Feb. 21, he had not been formally charged.
