Man in critical condition after townhouse blaze

A man is in critical condition after a fire broke out late Monday night in a townhouse in Winnipeg’s Mission Gardens neighbourhood.

Fire crews responded to the two-storey residence on Robson Street shortly before 11 p.m., where they were met with thick smoke pouring from one of the units.

Firefighters initially battled the blaze from outside before gaining entry and locating the victim inside.

The fire was brought under control by 11:40 p.m.

Damage estimates are not available. Damages were primarily contained to the suite where the fire originated. The cause of the blaze remains under investigation.
