The Winnipeg Police Service deployed a tactical unit to the Talbot-Grey neighbourhood Sunday, after receiving reports that a man armed with a handgun had barricaded himself and four other people inside a room.
Officers responded to a home on the 500 block of Herbert Avenue around 5:45 p.m. Investigators learned a 26-year-old suspect became agitated and armed himself with the gun when he heard a window breaking. During the incident, the man waved the firearm around indiscriminately and fired it several times, the Winnipeg Police Service said in a news release Monday.
The WPS deployed several police units, including its tactical team and drone operators. Officers safely removed all occupants from the home, and the suspect surrendered himself to police. Nobody was injured, WPS said.
The suspect is facing numerous charges related to the incident. He has also been accused of pointing the handgun at another person earlier that day.
