A man, woman and 12-year-old boy are in police custody after a woman was robbed and stabbed in Winnipeg’s North End last week.

The incident occurred July 4, when the 31-year-old victim was visiting people she knew inside a home on the 400 block of Pritchard Avenue. A fight broke out between them, and the woman fled after her cigarettes were stolen, the Winnipeg Police Service said in a news release Thursday.

“The woman managed to escape but was chased down by one of the adults and a youth from inside the residence. She was thrown to the ground and stabbed as they attempted to steal her purse. The suspects ran off, while she made it to safety at a nearby store,” police said.

Officers found the woman in the 500 block of Selkirk Avenue and provided medical care until paramedics arrived. She was taken to the hospital in unstable condition, and later upgraded to stable, WPS said.

Police launched an investigation and arrested the suspects on Wednesday.

April Stephanie Bird, 35, was charged with robbery and a warrant for breaching an undertaking. Taylor Louis, 33, was charged with robbery, aggravated assault, possession of a weapon, uttering threats and breaching a release order. The youth was charged with robbery, aggravated assault and possession of a weapon.

All three suspects remain in custody, police said.
