Manitoba’s year-to-date total for confirmed and probable measles cases has surpassed 400, with government officials expecting the true number of infections to be higher.

The province reported 34 new confirmed cases and nine more probable infections in a weekly update Friday.

That brings this year’s totals to 353 confirmed and 54 probable cases (407 overall) as of March 21 — higher than figures reported for all of 2025 (319 confirmed and 29 probable cases).

Manitoba has the country’s highest number of reported infections in 2026. The province has said the majority of cases are unvaccinated or under-vaccinated children.

Three more people were hospitalized with the highly contagious disease, raising the total to 37 since Manitoba’s outbreak began a year ago.

Manitoba Health recently urged parents to consider the risk of measles while travelling or attending large gatherings over spring break or upcoming holidays.
