Firefighters remain on scene in the Exchange District after a fire broke out in a two-storey commercial building Wednesday morning.

McDermot Avenue and Bannatyne Avenue between Rorie Street and Main Street are closed to traffic as crews respond to the fire, which was reported at about 5:45 a.m.

Crews declared the fire under control by 6:40 a.m. There were no people in the building at the time and no injuries.

On Tuesday night, firefighters were called to a single-storey commercial building in the 1000 block of Nairn Avenue at 11:21 p.m.

Crews stopped the fire from spreading to nearby businesses and it was extinguished at 1:06 a.m.

No one was in the building at the time and there were no injuries. The fire appears to have been accidental and caused by an electrical failure.
