The Millennium Library closed Thursday as police investigate an incident at the facility.

During an unrelated press conference, Mayor Scott Gillingham said police are responding to a Wednesday evening incident at the downtown flagship library.

“There was an incident last evening in the library and the police are looking into the matter. I don’t have any details on the investigation,” said Gillingham.

The mayor said he did not have a timeline for reopening.

This is not the first time the Millennium Library has closed following a police incident.

The building was also shuttered on Dec. 11, 2022, after 28-year-old Tyree Cayer was stabbed to death on the main floor. Aside from pickups and returns, other library services such as browsing for books didn’t resume until Jan. 23, 2023, with metal detectors and extra security staff in place.
