Manitoba Public Insurance nearly tripled the number of communities it has loaned speed display signs to last year.

The Crown corporation distributed 25 signs to 13 municipalities on five-year loans in 2021 through a pilot program. The signs alert drivers of their speed and advise speeders to slow down.

The program was expanded to 21 more areas, for a total of 34, last year. A news conference about the expansion was held in Selkirk on Friday morning.

MPI is reviewing applications for the next disbursement of speed display signs.
