A new team of city staff members tasked with filling potholes and repairing boulevards, among other tasks, have ended their seasonal work.

Three neighbourhood action teams were assigned to work on maintenance issues until the end of October. The program was launched in June, and the teams were staffed with experts in streets maintenance, forestry and landscaping.

The teams filled about 34,710 potholes with 868 tonnes of asphalt by hand, trimmed 1,615 hazardous branches, repaired 944 signs and 2,700 square metres of boulevards, and cleared more than 506 square metres of graffiti, the City of Winnipeg said in a news release Friday.

The goal is to shorten the wait for services.

“I’m very pleased with the results to date,” Coun. Janice Lukes, chairwoman of the city’s public works committee, said in the release.

Team members have transitioned to doing other work around the city over the winter. The action teams will return in early spring.
