Manitoba Hydro and the Manitoba Home Builders’ Association have reached an agreement that will see new homes hooked up with electricity within five days of passing final electrical and gas inspections.
“Ensuring new homes are energized as quickly as possible reduces construction delays and improves predictability for both home builders and their customers,” association president Lanny McInnes said in a news release Friday.
Another change in the works involves Manitoba Hydro installing basic electric and natural gas infrastructure much earlier in the construction process. That change will initially be done in Winnipeg, Selkirk and Brandon only.
The changes are part of the province’s Affordable Energy Plan.
