New traffic signals have been set up at the intersection of Wilkes Avenue and Charleswood Road.
“The community has spoken loud and clear that Charleswood has Wilkes Avenue running through it, and they do not feel safe with the current infrastructure,” Charleswood-Tuxedo-Westwood Coun. Evan Duncan said at the intersection Wednesday.
“They want controlled intersections. They want speed reductions. And they want to be able to drive safely along this stretch of Wilkes that connects the Perimeter to Route 90.”
Qualico funded the installation, which cost about $350,000, as part of a development agreement for Ridgewood West. The City of Winnipeg will fund maintenance and operating costs for the signals, estimated at $5,000 annually.
