Two police officers suffered minor injuries after their vehicles were rammed during a chase Thursday night.
Winnipeg Police Service officers were told shortly before 10 p.m. that a 44-year-old man was driving a 1993 Ford Aerostar erratically in multiple Transcona parking lots. Officers learned the man had made “concerning comments” about his safety and the safety of others, a Friday news release stated.
Police tried to stop the van at Lagimodiere Boulevard at the south Perimeter Highway overpass, but said the driver continued.
Officers attempted a “forcible stop” near Leclaire Road and Highway 59, when the van rammed two cruisers, police said, causing one to slide into a ditch.
Police stopped the minivan near Île des Chênes at about 10:45 p.m., police said.
The man faces several charges, including assaulting a peace officer with a weapon and uttering threats. He was detained in custody.
