Man, 18, charged in fast food restaurant robbery

Employees at a Main Street McDonald’s were forced to hide in an office after they were threatened by a knife-wielding man early Saturday.

The incident occurred around 3 a.m. at the restaurant on the corner of Main and Mountain Avenue at 1186 Main Street, Winnipeg police said in a news release Saturday morning.

Police said a suspect armed with a knife entered the business’s kitchen and threatened to kill employees. He also demanded food.

Employees locked themselves in an office space and called 911. The suspect then sprayed the restaurant with a fire extinguisher, police said.

Police arrested the suspect leaving the business.

An 18-year-old Winnipeg man is facing an array of charges including robbery and uttering threats. He remains in custody.

No injuries were reported. The restaurant was open as of Saturday morning.
