One in critical condition after apartment blaze downtown; commercial building on Archibald burns

A person was rushed to hospital in critical condition early Thursday morning after firefighters pulled them from a blaze in an apartment building downtown.

Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service crews rushed to the apartment on the 300 block of Vaughan Street at about 5:15 a.m., where they found heavy smoke and flames coming from the building.

Firefighters found one person inside who needed to be helped out and paramedics rushed them to hospital. The individual’s gender and age have not been released. Other crews attacked the fire and got it under control by about 6:15 a.m.

Earlier, just after 10 p.m. on Wednesday, firefighters were called to Archibald Street, near Mission Street, where a blaze was burning in a commercial building.

Firefighters found heavy smoke and flames coming from the building, but got it under control by just before midnight. No one was hurt.
