A Opaskwayak Cree Nation man has been charged after he allegedly assaulted his girlfriend while armed with an imitation gun and confined her to a home.

Manitoba First Nations Police Service officers were called about the assault Friday and rushed to Amisk Crescent in the northern First Nation to contain the area, before getting in touch with people outside.

The suspect then left the home and surrendered to officers. The victim was escorted elsewhere by police.

A 23-year-old man was charged with several offences.
