Person in critical condition after house fire

A person is in critical condition after a fire in a home in the city’s Weston neighbourhood Monday night.

Fire crews were called to a single-storey house in the 300 block of Lock Street just before 8 p.m. and discovered heavy smoke and flames coming from the property, the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service said in a news release Tuesday morning.

The blaze was declared under control at 8:30 p.m.

Firefighters pulled one person from the home. They remain in critical condition, the news release said.

A cat was also found dead.

The cause of the fire is under investigation. The house is expected to be a total loss.
