Pimicikamak man drowns in Cross Lake

An autopsy is pending after a man is believed to have drowned in Cross Lake on Saturday.

RCMP were contacted about a reported drowning near the boat launch in Pimicikamak Cree Nation at about 7:35 a.m.

A group of people were at the launch when they saw a man struggling in the water and calling for help. Two of the people went into the water to try to pull the man to safety, but he went under the water and didn’t resurface.

Cross Lake RCMP, fire and rescue crew members and people from the community began searching the water. RCMP were told at about 7:05 p.m. that searchers had recovered a body.

The body was that of a 32-year-old Pimicikamak resident.
