A Winnipeg man is facing an animal cruelty charge after police received reports of two dogs being mistreated on a downtown street Friday.
At about 1:50 p.m., officers were called to the 300 block of Edmonton Street after receiving a report a man was “repeatedly and violently” pulling one of the dog’s leashes, the Winnipeg Police Service said in a news release Saturday.
Police located the suspect at a nearby apartment and he was taken into custody, police said. The two dogs were found in the suite and turned over to the city’s Animal Services branch.
A 20-year-old man faces charges of animal cruelty and failing to comply with a release order. He was released from custody on the condition he not possess animals.
His name was not released.
