City police have launched the first phase of a new electronic ticketing system for Highway Traffic Act offences.

The technology was set to be deployed in some traffic-enforcement vehicles Wednesday after being tested internally. A full rollout is planned for next year, the Winnipeg Police Service said in a news release.

“Under the new system, motorists who are issued an offence notice for a traffic infraction will receive a printed ticket directly at roadside,” the release said. “The e-tickets are clear, legible and easy to read.”
This modernized process enhances “accuracy and accountability,” the WPS said.

“As the information is inputted and tracked electronically, the system reduces the potential for administrative errors and provides accurate record-keeping. As a result, officers will spend less time on paperwork and more time on the road promoting safety within our community.”
