The city’s police chief is set to hold a news conference Thursday about an officer-involved incident.

The incident happened in the 200 block of Provencher Boulevard on Wednesday, police said in a release. The news conference is set for 2 p.m.

Earlier this week, Winnipeg Police Service Chief Danny Smyth held a news conference about another “officer-involved incident.” He briefed journalists on Monday, the day after a 19-year-old international student was fatally shot by police in an apartment at 77 University Cres. A lawyer representing the Nigerian family of the man killed identified him as Afolabi Stephen Opaso.

In another “officer-involved incident,” police fatally shot a 52-year-old man they said was holding a 19-year-old woman hostage inside a Manitoba Housing complex at 25 Furby St. on Dec. 28. Smyth held a news conference about that incident on Friday.
