Legacy Winnipeg rock station Power 97 is hitting “refresh” on its format.

As of today, CJKR 97.5 FM will be Power 97 Winnipeg’s Iconic Alternative, joining a stable of Corus-owned alternative music stations that includes Toronto’s 102.1 the Edge and Calgary’s Iconic Alternative 107.3 the Edge.

Power will now focus on alternative rock classics from the 1980s through the 2000s, which means artists such as the Talking Heads and Tears for Fears will join Power 97 staples such as Stone Temple Pilots and Foo Fighters.

A new format means a shuffle in on-air talent. Jay Richardson will continue to host Power Mornings, but co-host Vicki Shae will move down the hall to Power 97’s sister station 99 Country (99.1 FM).

Power 97 will also remain the FM home of the Winnipeg Jets with the regular season starting on Oct. 9.
