An inmate inside Manitoba’s federal prison has died in custody.
Andrew Rae, who was serving time at Stony Mountain Institution, died Tuesday, Correctional Service Canada said in a news release Thursday.
Rae had been in custody at the prison north of Winnipeg for just over one month after being convicted of manslaughter and receiving a sentence of two years and nine months. CSC officials have notified Rae’s family of his death, the release said.
The federal correctional authority did not include any information about what led to the death.
As in all cases involving the death of an inmate, police and the coroner have been notified and CSC will review the circumstances, it said.
