More pediatric beds and lower wait times for sick kids are being promised as part of a planned modernization of the children’s hospital at Winnipeg’s Health Sciences Centre.

The provincial government has pledged $25 million toward the Children’s Hospital Foundation’s Better Futures campaign. The funds were announced during the hospital foundation’s gala Saturday night and in a news release from the province Sunday morning. The $25-million contribution will go toward opening 70 modernized in-patient pediatric beds, new operating rooms to increase capacity for complex surgeries, and redevelopment of the pediatric hemodialysis unit. The hospital foundation surpassed its goal to raise $75 million.
