The Manitoba government has opened locations where people can pick up cheques and other “essential mail” while a postal strike continues.

Most offices will be open 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. weekdays. Essential mail includes cheques, court orders, educational materials, medical supplies and resources required to maintain health-care services and other prioritized items, the province said in a news release Wednesday.

“Provincial departments have held essential mail in anticipation of a possible disruption and have forwarded these items to pickup locations,” the release said.

Anyone picking up mail must present valid identification. A list of locations, including what types of mail can be picked up or dropped off, is available online.

Manitobans can also drop off mail for the provincial government at any location. Letters must be addressed to a specific department, including the room number, street address and city or town.

Canadian Union of Postal Workers members went on strike Friday.
