Province seeks to buy city land around Lemay Forest: report

The City of Winnipeg is being asked to sell land around Lemay Forest to the province for $1 to help the senior government create a provincial park, according to a new city staff report.
The Manitoba government expropriated two parcels of land at the site in 2025 and was initially expected to expropriate city land just beside it. However, the city learned in September that the province now wishes to buy its land for the nominal fee instead, the report says.
City staff don’t recommend any change, stating there is not enough information to determine if council should approve or decline the sale option.
