Province to fog for mosquitoes in Morden, Boissevain-Morton

After finding evidence of mosquitoes with West Nile virus in more rural communities, the province will spray them for mosquitoes.
Spraying will begin in Morden, along with an approximate three-kilometre radius into the Rural Municipality of Stanley, and in the municipality of Boissevain-Morton, within an approximate 3.5-kilometre radius of the intersection of Highway 10 and North Railway Street in the community of Boissevain.
According to a bulletin issued by the province Thursday, the specific dates for fogging will be shared with both communities and posted on the province’s website.
The rural municipality of West St. Paul and Stonewall are set to be sprayed Friday, and the town of Carman is scheduled for spraying on Saturday, dependent on weather. Several Winnipeg neighbourhoods were sprayed between July 31 and Aug. 5; no further spraying is planned.
The insecticide DeltaGard 20EW will be used; it’s applied using vehicle-mounted ground sprayers in the evening and overnight, when mosquites are most active. It kills mosquitos by direct contact.
There have been no confirmed cases of West Nile virus in Manitoba so far this year.
