RCMP investigating fatal crash with hydro pole

One man is dead and a woman was taken to hospital after a vehicle they were in hit a hydro power pole in Thompson.

On Saturday night at about 10 p.m. Thompson RCMP were called to a crash on Thompson Drive North, said a Monday news release.

When police arrived, they found the vehicle — said to be driving erratically in a nearby parking lot — in the westbound lane with extensive damage.

The driver, a 56-year-old Thompson man, was taken to hospital, but later died, police said.

A 53-year-old Thompson woman passenger was taken to hospital with serious, but non-life-threatening injuries.

RCMP are investigating.
