Selkirk RCMP are investigating after a popular pier was reportedly vandalized in the Interlake over the May long weekend.
The Village of Dunnottar said on its Facebook page Monday that all three 16-foot sections that remained in place through the winter had been “dismantled.”
“This is very disheartening for our community and will result in delays with having all eight piers up in a timely manner, as these three missing sections will need to be rebuilt before the piers can be fully erected,” the post said.
Later in the day, an update said two of the missing sections were recovered after washing up on shore.
“Due to the very low lake levels this spring and the nature of the damages, it is not believed that this damage was caused by Mother Nature,” the post said.
A spokesperson for the village confirmed they were leaning toward vandalism being involved. Police had no updates Tuesday.
RCMP asked anyone with information about the incident to call the Selkirk detachment’s non-emergency line at 204-482-1222.
