An RCMP officer suffered “serious injury” when they were hit by a man during an attempted arrest in The Pas.
Officers were sent to a home at about 1:05 p.m. Saturday and tried to arrest a man who was “behaving in a threatening manner to the residents of the home,” RCMP said in a news release Wednesday.
The man allegedly hit one of the officers, who fell backward and was injured. The male then fled.
Another RCMP officer saw a suspect on a nearby road and arrested him. The man was on house arrest and not allowed to leave his home, police said.
A 31-year-old Opaskwayak Cree Nation man is charged with assaulting a police officer, escaping lawful custody and two counts each of resisting arrest and breaching a release order. He remains in custody.
The officer was treated in hospital and released.
