Eight school children were hospitalized with minor injuries Tuesday after the bus they were travelling in collided with a tractor in rural Manitoba.

Mounties responded to the accident at the intersection of Road 37 West and Road 43 North, in the Rural Municipality of Grey, at about 9 a.m., Manitoba RCMP said in a news release.

Investigators learned a grader was travelling southbound on Road 37 West and pushing debris along the road, which a tractor was following behind and collecting.

The school bus rear-ended the tractor, police said.

The bus was taking 31 children to a school in the Prairie Spirit School Division. Those injured were taken to local hospitals.

The bus driver and tractor driver were also taken to hospital as a precaution. The grader was not involved in the collision, RCMP said.

Police do not believe alcohol was a factor. The investigation is ongoing.
