The Winnipeg Sea Bears have released reigning CEBL Most Valuable Player Teddy Allen, one day after the prolific scorer contributed 39 points, five assists and five rebounds in a 97-87 loss to the Edmonton Stingers.
The Sea Bears made the announcement on social media on Monday morning.
“Teddy Allen has been a valued member of our team, and we sincerely appreciate his contributions during his tenure with the Sea Bears,” Sea Bears head coach and general manager Mike Taylor said in a statement. “However, after careful consideration and many discussions, it has become evident that there is a misalignment of values and vision of the path forward for the club.”
Allen, a 6-6-tall guard, leads the Sea Bears in scoring this season, averaging 28.1 points per game through eight contests.
“The decision to release Teddy Allen was very difficult, however it was made with the best interests of the organization in mind,” Sea Bears president Jason Smith said in a statement. “We remain committed to maintaining a cohesive and forward-thinking team environment that aligns with our core values and objectives. Our organization dedicates itself to upholding high standards of team, integrity, respect and consideration for our community.”
The Sea Bears, who are currently tied for fourth place in the Western Conference with a 3-5 record, are back in action on Wednesday against the Vancouver Bandits.
