A Winnipeg senior missing since July has been found dead, RCMP said Tuesday.

The body of Stewart Campbell, 69, was found Monday in a bush area about three kilometres southwest of Springstein, a news release said.

Police had received a tip that a cat crate with Campbell’s last name on it was found in the area and a ground search later ensued. A previous aerial search failed to locate him.

Campbell had been last seen at a friend’s place in Stonewall at about 3:30 a.m. on July 15. He was reported missing two days later. RCMP issued a silver alert — sent about missing adults with cognitive impairments — on July 18.

His car was found in the Rural Municipality of MacDonald, east of Starbuck, on July 24.

Lana Knor, a relative of Campbell, said last month he hadn’t been diagnosed with dementia but did get mixed up on occasion. She said Campbell had taken a cat with him.

Stonewall RCMP continue to investigate.
