Seniors assaulted in home by stranger

An older couple was assaulted during a random home invasion in the Garden City area Monday evening.

The couple — a man in his 80s and a woman in her 70s — were sitting in the living room of their Meredith Bay home when a stranger entered the home and armed himself with a knife at about 6:30 p.m.

“Without provocation, the female was punched, and the male was stabbed,” the Winnipeg Police Service said in a news release Tuesday.

The man fled the home, and someone called 911.

The male victim was taken to hospital in unstable condition and later upgraded to stable. The woman was treated by paramedics at the scene.

Officers found an “intoxicated” man nearby and arrested him, seizing a knife.

Ryan Chase George, 23, is charged with breaking and entering/aggravated assault, assault with a weapon and possession of a weapon. He was detained in custody.
