A man whose vehicle was hit with gunfire while driving in the William Whyte neighbourhood has been arrested after investigators found a gun in the car after seizing it as evidence.
Police were sent to the area at about 4 a.m. Thursday. A vehicle was damaged, but no one was hurt.
Two armed suspects were reportedly seen fleeing the area. Officers arrested one in the area of Parr Street and Alfred Avenue and seized a sawed-off shotgun. The 28-year-old Winnipeg man has been charged with three weapons offences and detained in custody.
“Investigators believe this shooting was in relation to a drug dispute, and this investigation is continuing,” city police said in a news release.
Police seized the vehicle Friday and found another sawed-off shotgun, ammunition, brass knuckles and drug paraphernalia.
Another 28-year-old Winnipeg man has been charged with four firearms offences and released on an undertaking.
