A 20-year-old man has been charged for his alleged involvement in a shooting at a downtown hotel bar on Friday afternoon.

The man is accused of shooting a woman in her upper body after they got into an argument at the bar in the 300 block of Kennedy Street at about 3 p.m. Feb. 20. They didn’t know each other previously, the Winnipeg Police Service stated in a news release. Even though she was seriously injured, the woman left the bar before police arrived and went to the hospital later on.

At 7 p.m., the suspect went to the hospital to seek treatment for a gunshot-related injury. He was quickly apprehended in the hospital and arrested by Major Crimes Unit officers.

The suspect, whose name hasn’t been publicly released, is charged with aggravated assault, discharging a firearm with intent, pointing a firearm, unauthorized possession of a firearm and possession of a restricted firearm with ammunition.

He has been detained in custody.
