The driver critically injured in a single vehicle rollover in Transcona Sunday morning has been identified as a 21-year-old man.

Speed is being investigated as a contributing factor to the collision, which occurred on the 200 block of Redonda Street around 1:48 a.m. Sunday, the Winnipeg Police Service said in a news release.

Responding officers found a badly damaged 2020 BMW M34oi resting on the grass on the east side of Victoria Jason Park. The driver, who was the vehicle’s lone occupant, was ejected during the crash. He was airlifted to hospital and underwent surgery for serious injuries, police said.

Nearby Murdoch MacKay Collegiate issued a letter to parents Monday afternoon saying clinical supports are being made available at the school for students if needed.

The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information, including dashcam, security, or cellphone video related to the manner of driving of the involved vehicle around the time of the incident, is asked to contact police at winnipegcrimestoppers.org.
