St. Andrews Lock and Dam to close to vessels Oct. 14

The St. Andrews Lock and Dam will be closed to watercraft for the remainder of the year starting Oct. 14, the federal government said Wednesday. 

The drawdown of the Red River between Winnipeg and Lockport will begin after that. Water levels on the Red and Assiniboine rivers in the Winnipeg area, and on the Red between the city and Lockport, will fluctuate. 

Gated areas below the dam might be closed because of high waters or for other reasons. Once closed, the areas will remain closed until spring.
