Steinbach RCMP investigating fatal highway crash

Two people have died and two others are seriously injured after a head-on Highway 12 crash Sunday morning.

It happened on Sunday morning, at about 9:25 a.m. on Highway 12 about five kilometres north of Zhoda. Steinbach RCMP responded to the crash. Investigators believe a northbound minivan attempted to pass a semi-trailer when it crashed head-on with a southbound SUV. The 76-year-old male driver and 72-year-old female passenger of the minivan were pronounced dead on scene. A 37-year-old male passenger was taken to hospital in serious condition. The 41-year-old male driver of the SUV was taken to hospital in critical condition.

Steinbach RCMP, along with a forensic collision reconstructionist, continue to investigate.
