Two men have been charged after a stolen vehicle hit an RCMP cruiser head-on in Portage la Prairie.

Patrolling officers saw the vehicle, which had been stolen in Winnipeg, with three males inside and tried to stop it on the Tupper Street overpass at about 7:40 p.m. Saturday.

After the driver saw two more RCMP vehicles on the south side of the overpass, the vehicle sped up. It nearly hit one cruiser and crashed into the other, police said.

One officer and two suspects received medical attention for minor injuries, RCMP said in a news release Tuesday.

Two Winnipeg men, ages 36 and 30, have been charged. The younger man was wanted on a warrant out of Winnipeg for being unlawfully at large and on an apprehension warrant from the Parole Board of Canada.

The third male was released without charges “at this time,” police said.
