A man is facing charges after a police cruiser car was rammed by a stolen vehicle Saturday.
A man stole personal property from a home on the 300 block of Desautels Street, stole a 2015 Jeep Wrangler from a home on the first 100 block of Westchester Drive and used a stolen credit card at a business on the 100 block of St. Mary’s Road between May 27 and Friday, police said.
Officers saw the stolen Jeep in a parking lot on the 1400 block of St. Matthews Avenue on Saturday. The driver rammed a police vehicle before speeding off, the Winnipeg Police Service said in a news release Monday.
Officers spotted the Jeep again in the Weston area at about 1:15 a.m. Sunday.
“The Jeep drove at excessive speeds down sidewalks, green spaces, and the wrong way down a street in the effort to get away from police,” the WPS said.
Police used a tire-deflation device, and the Jeep was stopped on the 100 block of St. Anne’s Road.
A 33-year-old man is charged with seven offences related to driving, fraud, property crime and assault, and was held in custody.
