Thousands of Manitobans are temporarily without electricity after stormy weather knocked out power lines last night.
Manitoba Hydro crews are working on restoring power to about 600 customers in River Heights, to more than 500 customers in the Victoria Crescent area and about 300 customers in the Minto area.
An unplanned outage in the Grand Marais/Lester Beach area is also affecting more than 800 Hydro customers.
There were about 4,200 customers without power outside of Winnipeg in several outages that were all likely caused by high winds, Manitoba Hydro spokesman Peter Chura wrote in an email.
“We hope to have all outages restored this morning. I would remind people to stay at least 10m away from downed power lines and call 911, and if there are crews already there working on it, also keep your distance and don’t approach to talk to the crews,” he said.
Manitoba Hydro has been posting updates on social media. See the outage map here.
“Thunderstorms last night and early this morning brought lines down in several areas of the province. Crews worked through the night when it was safe to do so, and we will get power restored as soon as possible today. Stay at least 10m back from downed lines,” reads a 7:19 a.m. post on X.
