A student was taken to hospital after being stabbed in the parking lot of a high school in Portage la Prairie on Thursday afternoon.
The teen was injured during a confrontation between a group of youths in the student parking lot at Portage Collegiate Institute shortly after dismissal. The student sought help from school staff members, who gave the teen first aid before they were hospitalized, Portage la Prairie School Division superintendent Pamela Graham said in a statement Friday.
The school was put into hold-and-secure protocol as RCMP searched for suspects. The hold-and-secure was lifted shortly after 5 p.m., after suspects were taken into custody, Graham said.
“We recognize that the incident yesterday at PCI is concerning,” Graham said in the statement. “We want to stress that our schools are safe, and we are dedicated to maintaining a secure learning environment for all students and staff.”
Manitoba RCMP said they will release more information about the incident late Friday morning.
