Suspect arrested after victim, 74, assaulted

A 20-year-old man has been charged with assaulting a 74-year-old man inside a Rothesay Street apartment complex Thursday.
Winnipeg Police Service investigators determined the victim had been socializing with another man when they got into a verbal argument, which escalated to the point the suspect struck the victim with a weapon. Police didn’t disclose the type of weapon.
It happened just after 2:30 a.m. June 25 at the apartment building in the 1400 block of Rothesay Street. The victim was taken to hospital in critical condition and was later upgraded to stable.
Just after 2 p.m. that day, the Major Crimes Unit went to a suite in the 1400 block of Rothesay Street and arrested a suspect.
Tyrone Jack Goulet, 20, has been charged with assault with a weapon and was detained in custody.
